I think the blossom on this page is Blackthorn (sloe). Blackthorn blossom comes out before the leaves as in this picture – I can only see a few green buds. Hawthorn blossom is synchronous with the leaves. Also blackthorn has conspicuous thorns, often up to an inch long – many are visible in this shot.
I grant May is rather late for blackthorn especially in the mild SW.
