  1. Michael says:

Grange over Sands- nothing seems to change there. Great meat pies at the butchers

    • Perfect row of shops there. I filled my backpack from the bakers before realising there was a butchers too!

I love the photo of the clouds reflected on the water at Cartmel Sand. It looks sooo pretty!

  3. I do remember some of the railway bridges being tempting to try to walk across … rather than walk the often much longer way around. I didn’t of course, but the Cumbria coast is unusual in that the railway usually has a more direct route than the roads (or footpaths), unless you are willing to try to walk over the sands between the estuaries (I didn’t brave that, either).

    • Very tempting, I’ve talked to some coast walkers who’ve made the dash across but I’m worried about ending up like Wile E. Coyote, splatted on the front of a speeding locomotive! I don’t understand why a web of footpaths is shown across the sands on the OS maps as they are highly dangerous even though they show a disclaimer, seems to b inviting a tragedy. I did enjoy seeing the train tracing the edge of cumbria from the paths though, gives a sense of scale to the landscape.

Whether you have comments on the photos, some knowledge or a personal story on this area you’d like to share, or you’ve spotted a typo or error, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
