Shops! In the hills to the north of Strontian lead was mined in the 18th century and in these mines the mineral strontianite was discovered, from which the element strontium was first isolated.

Yes it was a good moment, it’s hard to photograph birds with any sense of context so I was pleased with that one. There’s something so British about sheds so seeing one marooned like that made me chuckle!
Just looked at the map a little closer – how long do you expect it to take to do the west coast?? That is a lot of ground to cover with all of the inlets and such! I love what you’re doing though and wish I could too, or at least parts of it. I’ve always heard about how beautiful the west coast of Scotland is and it appears to be true.
I’ve reached Ullapool now (thirty days ahead from this post due to editing backlog) should take a couple of weeks to complete the west coast when I head back up in June
I’m enjoying following your travels – feels like I’m seeing all these places the easy way. You’ve reached more familiar territory to me now that you’re in Ullapool, so I shall look forward to reading about that. (I’m originally from near Thurso, but haven’t been up that way for a good few years.)
