Spreading wildfire over the Greenstone peninsula. In a few days I’d walk through the charred landscape of still smouldering peat and heather, the fence posts burnt to stumps. Wester Ross, Scotland. Ben Mor Coigach in the distance.

Ivor’s Bothy, where I spent a very cosy night, with the distant peaks of Sail Mhòr and An Teallach, Wester Ross, Scotland.

Chatting with Anne Grey at Two Lochs Radio about my walk, Gairloch.

Guests on Two Lochs Radio are asked to read the weather forecast. I’ve always wanted to do that!

The daily ritual of collecting water at the closest burn before setting up camp. Three litres lasts me for dinner and the following morning’s breakfast.

  1. Winifred Wilson says:

Wonderful, words fail me! Layer upon layer of hills, rocks, colours.

  2. Big Sand was aptly named I thought! I really enjoyed this one including the walk out to the lighthouse (the previous owners used to be ferocious about anyone going there that wasn’t staying there, but fortunately gone now). Wonderful shot of the otter, you did well to see it.

Going on Two Lochs radio looks amazing. I did see the studio and put it on the radio when I was in the area. Great they let you (made you?) do the weather too! Two Lochs Radio used to compete with Radio Scilly (now Islands FM) on the Isles of Scilly as to whose station was the smallest!

    • I was warned about the lighthouse too. There was even a council notice stating the path was public and a number to call if any trouble! Two Lochs was great fun and Anne was lovely.

Ivor’s Bothy looks pretty basic although obviously you can’t see inside but I’m guessing similar to the outside but less windy!

    • Surprisingly it’s very comfortable, great library, comfy chair and lots of food! I’ll share a video and pic of the interior in tomorrow’s post.
