haha probably! I just found it so evocative and the steel is rusting badly so it wont be standing for much longer
Ah I remember this walk well, it was wonderful. At the end of the B8057 I decided to try and make my own way along the coast rather than stick to paths and tracks. I was so pleased to discover the beach at Camas Mor and I was lucky that when I was here it was a beautiful sunny day, so it looked quite tropical.
I did have a look in Ivor’s Bothy. I read something about there having been a fire there at some point (perhaps that is where the danger notice on the door comes from) and the roof had been patched with plastic. It was dripping slightly over the main sleeping area when I was in there presumably where overnight rain was still seeping through. I don’t remember the gun emplacement though, I must have missed that.
Yes these beaches look very tropical when the weather is right don’t they . A fire makes sense at Ivor’s. I had the dripping too! Easy to miss the gun emplacement as you have to walk the wrong way for a few hundred metres rather than directly follow the road to Poolewe (you can see where i doubled back on myself on the map).
Recognise likely desire to keep the Grotto’s location quiet but would I be right in saying it’s between Ivor’s and Cove? Think I’ve got the location on the coast (around Sgeir Mhor beach) but curious to check before I go wandering out.
i remember when people understood the need to keep the bothy secret so it didn’t get trashed. you were either trustworthy enough to be told or you discovered it yourself.
