Day 293: Greenstone Point to Rubha na Moine – Anthrax Island

Ross-shire - West, Scotland

Date of walk: 19/4/19

Greenstone Point I, Wester Ross, Scotland.

I have a sinister night’s sleep tonight, having pitched my tent opposite Gruinard Island, where in 1942, biological warfare tests using‬ Anthrax took place. In 1990, after 48 years of quarantine, the island was deemed safe, and the warning signs were removed. ‬Needless to say, I collected my water for my dinner a couple of hours away from the island!

A great set of photos over the last few weeks – I do like your building and detail shots.

I don’t think that you can get to Gruinard Island? Probably with a boat but I expect that landing is technically illegal not that anyone would notice and even if they did you’d be long gone,as in departed the area not as in departed this life!,by the time the police or army got there!I’d guess that the anthrax is pretty much inert now? It’s one of those illegal poisons that have no use except as a poison like strychnine but cyanide and arsenic have legal uses so can be bought with a special license but obviously ownership isn’t exactly encouraged!
